The National Service Scheme (NSS) is a central sector scheme run by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports of the Government of India. NSS was launched by the Union Education Minister V.K.R.V. Rao in 24.09.1969, the birth centenary year of Mahatma Gandhi. The NSS's sole purpose is to provide young students with hands-on experience in community service. It is a voluntary association of young people in colleges, universities, and at the +2 level working for a campus-community linkage.
Kuntala Kumari Sabat Women’s College, Balasore, which is one of the oldest colleges in the state, bears the glory of several activities under NSS. The NSS volunteers were enrolled after the admission process, which was followed by an orientation programme for NSS volunteers. Other innovative activities were carried out in the college in addition to the regular NSS activities. At present, the volunteer's strength is 200. There are two units in our college, i.e., NSS Units I and II. Each NSS unit consists of 100 NSS volunteers, and it is supervised by one programme officer (PO). The College Level NSS Advisory Committee monitored NSS activity.
