Kuntala Kumari Sabat Women’s College, Balasore

Kuntala Kumari Sabat Women’s College, Balasore was established on the 1st July 1960 by the local elite with a view to promoting higher education for women in Balasore.

First named as Women’s College, Balasore, it started under private management as a degree College, with teaching facilities in Humanities only. Late K.C. Dey was the first Principal and Chief Patron. The State Government took over the management of college from 01.10.1965. Subsequently, the college was named after the illustrious Odia Poet, Kuntala Kumari Sabat.

The +2 Science faculty in the college came into being in 1996. However,in 2001-2002, +2 Arts and Science began to function independently as KKS Women’s Junior College, Balasore. Currently it has again been renamed as K.K.S. Women’s Higher Secondary School, Balasore while still remaining affiliated to the Council of Higher Secondary Education Odisha.

Functioning as a composite college, U.G. teaching (+3) with provision for honours teaching in eleven subjects in Humanities and four Science subjects (opened in 2013-14) along with Mathematics as pass subject, KKS Women’s College, Balasore is now affiliated to Fakir Mohan University, Balasore. The Degree wing of the college is included in section 2(f) & 12(b) of the UGC Act and listed in the UGC Directions of recognized Institutions at Sl No. 15 of page 473.

Accredited with ‘B’ in second cycle by NAAC of India, the college awaits its third cycle assessment and accreditation.

Funded by two important Government Programmes, RUSA (Rastriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan) and OHEPEE (Odisha Higher Education Programme for Excellence and Equity), KKS Women’s College, Balasore has completed a journey of more than 60 years and continues to march ahead.
